DREAMERS ON THE MOVE
Kenya Ministry Couples Relocate

After heroically leading several ministries in the Nairobi church over the years, John and Jane Maleya have been called to relocate from Kenya's capital and take over the leadership of the church in Eldoret and overseeing of ministries around Western Kenya.

John MaleyaOn Sunday 17 December John preached his last message to Nairobi's central ministries, and called to the disciples to keep their dreams alive. Sharing how his parents - who have since become disciples - objected to his leaving a bank job to go into the full-time ministry, and reading from the life of Joseph in the book of Genesis, John declared, "As we develop spiritual dreams, our dreams will not always meet with the approval of our family members and friends."

Calling all to delight themselves in God and give themselves wholly to their dreams, John asked, "Is anything too hard for God? Is any dream too hard for God to fulfill?" Indeed John and Jane are tremendous examples of disciples who have been consistent in their faith-propelled kingdom dreaming over many years.

John and Jane were both baptized in July 1991. John entered the full-time ministry the following year and was appointed an evangelist in 1995. Three years later Jane entered the full-time ministry, was appointed Women's Ministry Leader in 2001, and in May 2003 the two were married. They have a two-year-old son, Jason. (John, Jane and Jason are pictured at the top of the page)

John led the Eldoret church from August1994 to July 1995, during which time the church grew meteorically.

John says, "I am excited. I've cherished the dream to return to Eldoret but it escaped my mind in the course of time. My fire for God is being put to the test and I want to live up to it and make God proud."

"11 years ago," he adds, "the goal was to make Eldoret the Antioch of that region and start many churches, and my returning to Eldoret has reawakened that dream."

About the prospect of leading the Eldoret church Jane chips in, "It is challenging and is a great opportunity to grow."

John has been the main song leader in the Nairobi church for many years, and has been leading a men's singing group known as Golden Vocal Cords as well as a youth dance troupe, SWAT.

Jeff and Peninah MalobaMoving in the opposite direction are Jeff and Peninah Maloba (pictured left), who will assume leadership of the Kibera region. Before moving to Eldoret from Nairobi, Jeff and Peninah led Nairobi's North Region while holding down full-time secular jobs and guided the ministry to incredible growth. In their six years at the helm of the Eldoret church they have overseen the establishment of beachead miinstries in the towns of Kitale, Kakamega and Malaba.

Of the move Jeff shares, "It was not easy to leave Eldoret having been there for so long and held great dreams for the evangelization of the surrounding region, but the change is a great learing opportunity. It's an opportunity to be discipled more closely and have input readily available and accessible (rahter than being discipled mostly over the phone, from distance)."

Years ago John and Jeff were schoolmates in high school, and now are fellow dreamers for the Most High. They sang together in the school choir and continue, now in the kingdom, to sing from the same hymn sheet. The lives of both families continue to set a tremendous example for all of faith, growth and effective leadership, and to provide impetus and inspiration for us all to keep our spiritual dreams alive.
