16 December 2004 RICHARD ALAWAYE - MY DREAM FOR THE CONTINENT OF LIGHT 15th Anniversary Of The Planting Of The Nairobi Church Richard and his wife, Sarah, whom he met and married in Kenya, together with their two daughters, Gina, 10, and Ashley-Anne, 8, live in Atlanta, where they serve in the full-time ministry of the church, leading the Lilburn sector of the Atlanta church.
What is your fondest memory of the early days in Nairobi? My fondest memory of the early days in Nairobi is the large bible talks we had at the 680 Hotel. To see over 40 people at bible talk every week was always exciting. What was the scariest thing for you in the early days? The scariest thing I did in the early days was "Street Preaching". In the beginning we never knew how people were going to respond. Once I got the hang of it, it was a lot of fun. What motivated you to come to Nairobi as part of the mission team? My motivation to come to Nairobi in the first place was realizing that God wanted me to have an impact not only in Nairobi but throughout Africa. My dream and goal was to see many Africans become disciples and rise up so that one day we would become the continent of "Light". What lessons did you learn from your experience in helping plant the Nairobi church? All the lessons I have learned in the last 15 years of being in Africa are helping me here tremendously. I am able to help disciples here have a perspective of how things are in the world and that makes a big difference. I thank God that He used me in East, South and West Africa over a period of 15 years. There is nothing like seeing many men and women one was able to impact being used by God and leading others. I am blessed by the family I have in all the churches. Back to "They Came They Saw And They Planted" story and index of other mission team mmembers' recollections Pictures:A Photo Feast Of Firsts |
