3 February 2006 PROFILE OF A PIONEER Edwine Omaya Sent To Lead Mombasa Church
While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off. Acts 13:2,3 Edwine Nathan Mitz Onkundi Omaya has been set apart to lead the nascent Mombasa church as it is officially launched.
Having spent a number of his formative years in the seaside city of Mombasa, Edwine was baptized as a freshman at Kenyatta University on 9 November 2001. Even then he had already been fruitful as a friend he invited to church while he himself was studying got baptized a week before Edwine. In 2003, while at his rural hometown of Kisii during university vacation, Edwine baptized a friend of his, and from there was born the Kisii town fellowship that has continued to grow since then. Edwine completed his university studies last year and was soon called to serve in the full-time ministry, where he led the Kenyatta University brothers and sisters to consistent growth. About leading the Mombasa church Edwine says, “I am honoured to have been given this task by God. I am not equal to it, but feel challenged to depend on God, and I expect great things to happen.” During Edwine’s send-off before the Nairobi congregation, campus ministry leader, Jarrett Odwallo, said to Edwine, “You are an inspiration to the campus ministry and a demonstration that God can use ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things.” Let us pray for Edwine and the entire Mombasa congregation as we all look forward to extraordinary advancement of God’s kingdom throughout the coastal region of Kenya. |
