CELABRATION OF SALVATION
Kampala Young Christians Festivity

By Richard Ahenda

"So then ,just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." Colossians 2:6-7

Kampala DisciplesThis was the theme that bound together both the young and old Christians as we in the Kampala International Church of Christ celebrated our 20/20 party. In the last 20 months, God has added 20 new souls to our number.

Just like the book of Luke 15:7,10, we felt so blessed that God had given us 20 reasons to rejoice with the angels in heaven. There was joy as every young disciple was introduced by either their discipler or the person who reached out to them. Each young disciple got a bible, a quiet time note book, the book,"How We Got The Bible" by Mike Taliaferro and a book on evangelism, "One Thing You Can't Do In Heaven", plus other personal gifts.

There was food and songs, scripture reading and poems that inspired everyone to trust God and remain faithful to the end.

There was even more joy because the function was held at our new venue. As Psalm 84 says, our souls had been yearning for a long time for a place where we could serve God more effectively. We are all grateful to him for the answered prayer.

Kampala Meeting Venue Kampala Disciples

The function was concluded by a sermon from Colossians 2:1-17. It felt like the book of acts 2 where the disciples broke bread and ate with glad and sincere hearts. We all look forward to the Lord adding to our number daily those who are being saved. To his name be all the glory! Amen.

Below are two of the poems recited at the function.

When I considered quitting

My mind was flooded with thoughts
And my heart was not at ease
My failures came to torment me
I seemed to disappoint those that love me
The race appeared too long for me

In my anguish I longed for death
Then I pondered retracing my steps
For even those before me
Didn't seem to tread in the road of my dreams
I considered living for my God
In a simpler untiring way
For my strength seemed exhausted

But I came back to my senses
And I remembered the might of Yahweh
I also recalled his love and wisdom
So I won't quit no matter what
I will surrender all that I can't keep
To serve the one that never fails.

Stephen and Paul

Stone followed stone
But Stephen stood still
And when death was close
He prayed for his killers
That God would forgive not punish

And God heard his prayer
And picked Paul from among them
And Paul was sent to the Gentiles
To carry on from where Stephen stopped

The ears heard of Jerusalem
Of danger and jails that awaited
And Paul was urged to turn death
But turn he didn't
For even death didn't scare

He knew the God of his faith
And his calling he would pursue
No matter who warned of death.
But which Paul is this, one may ask,
Paul that nodded when Stephen died?
Or Paul born after Stephen died?

Indeed the old is gone, the new has come
Here's Paul the Lord has touched
Here's Paul that knows the truth
Here's Paul that can die for the truth
Here's Paul that is born again.
