GRACE SYOKAU Grace Syokau, a member of the Parklands Sector of the Nairobi church’s Metro region, was born on the 30th of December 1966 and was baptized into Christ on the 8th of August 1993. On the 11th of November 2002 she passed on to be with the Lord, and was laid to rest three days later.
Grace, a single mother, was a vibrant, fun-loving disciple, well known in the fellowship for her deep commitment to the kingdom and her evangelistic zeal. "A ministry would easily be established in every neighbourhood she moved into," says James Gissingah, a brother in the Parklands sector.Grace helped many people become Christians and was also highly instrumental in nursing several struggling sisters in Parklands back to spiritual health. She was constantly focused on encouraging others. Peris Wambui recalls that Grace "would always be concerned about other people and what was going on in their lives." Grace lived by deep convictions, and even though weakened physically by illness as a result of which she was bed-ridden for the last 24 months, she never let anything interfere with her relationship with God. At one point her family brought in a witchdoctor to "heal" her. She summoned all the strength she had in order to push him away and stated firmly that she would never take such an ungodly course. Grace made it clear to her family that if God wanted her healed then he would do so, but if not, she did not fear death because her life was right with God. The family later brought denominational pastors to pray for Grace’s healing and for her to get saved, but she declared that she knew Jesus and was a baptized disciple. At Grace’s funeral, the pastors testified to her deep conviction and strong faith right up to the end. Grace is survived by her daughter, Nduku, to whom she was extremely devoted and who exhibits the same joy and enthusiasm with which her mother lived. In the words of Mary Mwanza, a dear friend of Grace’s in the Metro region, "Grace was indeed an inspiration to all of us." Grace, you were a pillar in the church and you are still a pillar now, because Jesus has promised that "him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God." (Revelation 3:12) We miss you. We look forward to seeing you very soon on the other side. Go to the "Loving Memory" Page |
