MICHAEL AMBUNDO - Eldoret, Kenya

"Your old men will dream dreams."
Acts 2:17

Michael Ambundo
Born in 1936, Michael Ambundo eventually settled in Eldoret, where two of his sons, first Morisson, and then Ken, became disciples. Many years after their baptisms, Mzee Ambundo, as he was affectionately called in the Eldoret church, responded to the love of his sons and the love of the Son, and became a Christian. Mzee Ambundo was baptized in September 2003. About six months later, on March 16th 2004, the Lord called him home.

Mzee Ambundo is highly respected and well remembered in the Eldoret church as an outstanding example of humility and love for the kingdom. Jeff Maloba, leader of the Eldoret church points out that Mzee Ambundo "let his son teach him the Bible, and once a disciple he would constantly seek advice about many things. He came to me on many occasions asking for input about how to lead his family." Morisson shares that "In humility, my father came to me while studying the Bible and apologized for how he reacted when I quit a job he had helped me get due to my kingdom convictions."

Julius Nguku, who helped study the the Bible with Mzee Ambundo recalls, of Mzee Ambundo's commitment to the kingdom, "He would leave his house at 6 am on Sundays, walk to service and get there early." Mzee also regularly had visitors with him at church. Were, one of the older members of the Eldoret church, explains Mzee Ambundo's consistency as a disciple. "Michael was one of the older members of the church," he says. "People would say that the Eldoret church was only for the young, but Michael understood that discipleship is not a question of age but of following Jesus' truth." Mzee Ambundo was, as Scripture says, an old man who had a kingdom dream.

Mzee Ambundo had a zeal, energy and commitment for the kingdom that belay his age, and stands as a shining example for us to not only remember but to imitate. Let us follow his example just as he followed the example of Christ.

Ken summarizes Mzee Ambundo's great influence in his life by saying of his father, "He has been more than a father. He has been a friend." Morisson says, "I'll miss him as a dad. I'll miss his giving, unifying, steadying influence in my life and in the life of our family."
