THE OPTION OF ADOPTION
Living It, Loving It And Learning From It

Rayolas newspaper articleOn the 3rd of August, Rayola and Georgeanne Osanya-Nyynéque of the Nairobi Church appeared in the Nation newspaper, Kenya’s highest distribution daily newspaper, together with their son, Paul Michael Rambo, in an article about adoption, entitled, “Giving Adoption A Good Name,” which featured other families as well. Here, Rayola and Georgeanne give background and follow-up to the newspaper article.

“The reason I agreed to be interviewed for the article,” says Rayola, “is that in many people’s minds in Kenya adoption has a bad name, and as I want to be an advocate for adoption, I saw this as a great platform for that.” Georgeanne shares, “I accepted to be interviewed by the journalist because I thought the article would encourage people who might have hesitations about adopting.”

Friends’ Reactions

“So many people I know have told me that they read the article and that it impacted them,” Rayola continues. “A colleague at work said she’d been convincing a sister of hers who wants to adopt not to do so but that she now views adoption positively.”

Georgeanne adds, “A former schoolmate of mine whom I ran into said that she read the article and was inspired. A sister in the church said, after reading the article, that she was proud to be identified with me.”

“Here are some of the text messages we got after the article appeared in the newspaper: ‘I am more convicted about the lifestyle after reading the article.’ ‘Thanks for inspiring the nation.’ ‘Thanks to you and the family for accepting to be participants. The article was great and there have been enquiries [at New Life Children’s Home] due to it.’

Fruits Of Adoption

“God has blessed us in many ways through Paul’s adoption: Paul has brought incalculable joy and warmth to our lives, we’ve seen friends and friends of theirs go ahead and adopt, and two young ladies who have come to live with us to help look after Paul have become disciples and gotten baptized, which is an answered prayer because we’ve put it before God that Paul’s adoption would lead to people becoming Christians.”
