Kevin Broyles EYES ON THE PRIZE
It's All About Seeing God

Kevin Broyles

(Kevin, who was baptized 25 years ago, is a medical doctor and a deacon in the Triangle church. His wife is a disciple and they have two daughters)

It's easy to look at people and get a wrong picture - think that people have it all together/ are rich/ have no struggles.

PLAN
Jeremiah 29:11

God has a plan for each and every one of us. Sometimes we feel like God has a plan for others but not for us. He has a plan for you.

PERSPECTIVE
2 Corinthians 2:14-17

We are the aroma of life. We are the aroma of Christ. What an incredible honour and responsibility!

PERSEVERANCE
Hebrews 12:1-13
This is a passage about perspective and perseverance. The fact that there is a great cloud of witnesses around us should be of great encouragement. This is the perspective that we should have - that the cloud of witnesses is present to spur us on. When something tough happens, we should neither feel beaten down nor should we overlook the lessons that there are to learn.

Kevin shared how while it's easy to look at people and feel that some have it all together, that is never the case. He candidly shared that when he was making progress towards getting married, he was afraid of commitment, having never known his biological father, and having seen his mother go through two divorces. To become a doctor, he had to overcome a low self-esteem that came from growing up with constant disparaging comments aimed at him, and had to overcome failure in his first year of medical school. Only because disciples rallied to his side, shared, mark, did he find the courage to continue through the wall of self-doubt. Once married, it was only through great help from disciples, particularly Sam and Geri Laing, that he and his wife learned to have a stable marriage, and now they are happy and in love (while constantly working at the various challenges that come their way, he adds, as with every married couple).

While receiving direction from others to help us through our weaknesses and struggles, we must make our own decisions and effort in order to persevere and therefore learn and grow from the ups and downs of life.

PURPOSE

We have the ministry of the gospel of Christ. While we should all make efforts to better ourselves, we should never do so at the expense of our relationship with God, our relationships with people, or the opportunity to help others.
