THE KEY TO A SUCCESSFUL MINISTRY

By Benson Kyama, Bujumbura, Burundi

Matthew 11:12
Forceful means energetic, purposeful, unstoppable regardless of challenges, being a dreamer, wiling to advance a mission.

1. BE FORCEFUL

It is important to lead by example, to be fully involved with people and to make yourself a slave to those you seek to lead and help.

Luke 13:31-34
Jesus was a dreamer. He had a goal to meet and was not distracted or swayed by the challenges around him. He was positive about what was said about him and not at all discouraged.

Acts 16:13-15
Paul and his companions were open-minded, looking for a place to pray, and God blessed them.

Be open-minded, have an open mouth, talking to people around you as you surrender yourself to be used by God. Be busy with other disciples doing all manner of activities, e.g. visiting relatives, having fun times, etc.

2. BE A FRIEND

Philippians 1:3-6

Paul is grateful and excited about the friends and friendships that he had in the church. Friendship is important in the spreading of the gospel. When we become partners in the gospel, God works through that.

It makes a big difference to people when you humble yourself and serve them. Visiting people has a big impact on them. As disciples we must be there for each other in both good times and bad.

John 15:12,13
This is how much we need to lay down our lives. Disciple and teach people as a friend, not from the positional of a leader. Sometimes a leader can be hypocritical. Be open and honest.

3. HELP THE NEEDY

Benevolent activities must be emphasized in our various churches and ministries.

Matthew 8:1-3, 5-7, 14-17, 9:1,2

Jesus was constantly involved in meeting the needs of people in the community. The only miracle we need to perform is to love people.

Matthew 9:35-38
Jesus combined evangelism with benevolent activities.
