CLOTHE YOURSELF WITH HUMILITY

Colossians 3:12

1. CHOOSE HUMILITY

Since God has chosen you for humility, choose humility for yourself. Humility builds and bonds. Pride divides and destroys. For a great marriage, great fellowship as singles, great parenting, great discipling relationships, great fruitfulness, choose humility.

Colossians 3:15-17
As the introductory passage to this lesson (Colossians 3:12) continues, the keys to humility are revealed - peace, which often comes through prayer; a grateful heart, rather than a grumbling heart; and bible knowledge that lives in you and impacts you.

Humility is shown by different things, e.g. serving others, saying "thank you" for services rendered, friendship extended and favours shown; apologizing when you are in the wrong, and not feeling like you are above saying "sorry, please forgive me;" accepting correction and input, forgiving those who wrong you.

Q. Does this characterize the way you relate to others around you?

2. DON'T LOOSE YOUR HUMILITY

Some great, humble, godly men started off humble but then lost it eventually.

a. MOSES:
-Initially, Numbers 12:3 - Moses was good at listening and at following advice and instructions, e.g. instructions from God about how to face Pharaoh, advice from Jethro about how to set up an effective leadership structure.
-Eventually, Numbers 20:6-12 - In pride, Moses disobeyed God, for which he was punished.

b. SOLOMON:
-Initially, 1 Kings 3:9-12 - Upon becoming king, Solomon's request is not selfish, but is humble, aimed at serving others.
-Eventually, 1 Kings 11:1-6 - In pride Solomon disobeyed God, and it led to his spiritual ruin at the hands of godless women.

JESUS was humble to the end
-Initially, John 6:38 - Jesus was committed to doing God's will and not to following his own feelings and preferences. -Eventually, John12:27,28 As Jesus prepares for his crucifixion, he remains humble and committed to serving God, even when it hurts.

Q. What does it take to make you lose your humility and resort to prideful, speech, actions and reactions?

Choose humility, and choose to remain humble always, just like Jesus Christ.
