HUMILITY TO ENGAGE IN THE MISSION

These are the words to song number 7 in our songbooks, which reflect the humility to give ourselves over to God for his service:

Would you be poured out like wine upon the altar for me?
Would you be broken like bread to feed the hungry?
Would you be so one in me that I can do just as I will?
Would you be light, and life, and love, my word fulfill?

In other words, "Will you be humble enough to use your life for the work to which I have called you rather than solely for the goals you have dreamed for yourself?"

Mark 1:16-20
It took great humility for these men to put aside their livelihoods, dreams, careers and comforts in order to follow Jesus and do his work?

Q. What stops you from reaching out to non-disciples actively and consistently?

John 15:8
The proud person is concerned about his own glory. The humble person is wiling to be a servant so that the king is glorified. It glorifies God when you bear much fruit, and the humble disciple desires God to be glorified.

Q. Is it your goal to make many disciples?
Q. Are you working daily to make many disciples?

John 12:27,28
Greatly troubled and stressed at the prospect of being crucified, Jesus focused solely on God's glory, and this allowed him to sacrifice himself for the salvation of generations to come.

Q. Have you been backing away from or embracing the rigours involved in making disciples?
Q. Have you been making excuses or making every effort in making disciples?

John 12:24
We must die to ourselves if we are to be useful to God in making disciples. This is achieved by:
- Praying constantly for boldness.
- Accepting advice and correction from others.
- Studying your Bible to understand God, our need for him the mission he has given us.
- Spending time with people who excel in this area and learning to imitate their faith.

Q. Have you left the work to others or have you actively aimed to change and grow?

Without humility we will make many excuses. We will give in to fear, faithlessness and selfishness. With humility, on the other hand, we will triumphantly surrender to God and bear much fruit to glorify his name as we declare with deep convictions,
Yes, I'll be poured out like wine upon the altar for you;
Yes, I'll be broken like bread to feed the hungry;
Yes, I'll be so one in you that you can do just as you will;
Yes, I'll be light and life and love, your word fulfill.
