HUMILITY TOWARDS OTHERS

John 1:27

John declared that he was not worthy even to untie the thongs of Jesus' sandals, i.e. he was not worthy to untie Jesus' shoelaces, let alone walk in Jesus' shoes or stand in Jesus' place. What humility!

Q. Is this your attitude towards the disciples around you, your leaders, those you disciple, your spouse, children, neighbours, etc.?

You might say, "The people around me are not Jesus. They don't deserve the level of humility that was accorded to Jesus." Let's see.

Matthew 25:37-40; 44,45
What we do or neglect to do to others, we do or neglect to do to Jesus. So if we fail to show humility towards others then we fail to show humility to God.

1 John 4:12,20
Love is humble selfless giving, and one essential way that we show love for God is by showing love to those around us. It is wrong to think that we can be in any way, little or large, rude, inconsiderate or unloving towards people in our lives and yet claim humility towards God.

1 Peter 5:5 - "…All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another." (emphasis added)

We are all called to be humble towards all people.

Q. Do you feel that some are more deserving of your humility than others?
Q. Do you feel that certain people or certain types of people do not deserve for you to show them humility (e.g. people younger than you, people less educated tha you, people of a different tribe from you, people who earn less than you do, people of the opposite gender, etc.?)

Humble yourself before God by humbling yourself before the people around you.

"Humble [yourself], therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time." (1 Peter 5:6)
