EVERYDAY WITH JESUS
Following in the footsteps of Jesus basically means following his example.
Matthew 11:28-30
Jesus calls us to come to him, take his yoke and learn from him.
Many times we are wearied by worrying about many things:
"Will my money see me through to the end of the month?
"Will things ever be different in my life?
"Has God forgiven me my sin? Will I ever change?
"Is discipleship really meant for me?
"Will I ever get married?
"Will I find a job?" etc.
As a result, we are burdened by all these issues and we are thus unable to carry out God's work.
In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus is basically saying, "Let us walk together through this life. Let me show you how things work. Listen to me and learn from me, and life will be simplified."
1. LEARN FROM HIM
Luke 11:1,2
The disciples were willing to learn from Jesus about prayer.
Be simple and detailed in your prayers. Then keep on asking and knocking. That's what Jesus did.
When we lose the prayer habit we lose confidence in God's providence. How is your prayer?
John 12:47-50
Prayer gives us the humility to obey what God says.
John 8:31,32
Q. Are you holding to Christ's teachings? Do you know what his teachings are?
2. WALK AS HE WALKED
1 John 2:3-6
If you obey God's commands, you will walk as Jesus did. You will not make decisions according to what the world does or according to how you feel.
This is how Jesus walked:
Luke 2:49 He had to be about his father's business - at church, Bible Talk, in fellowship, etc., for us.
Luke 4:43 He had to preach. We must evangelize, reach out to people and help them to know God.
Luke 12:50 He had to accomplish his work. We must follow up on people and hang in there with them till they change.
John 9:4 He had to work as long as it was day. We must make the most of every opportunity.
Q. How are you doing in the above areas? Are you walking as Jesus did?
Let us strive to follow in the footsteps of Christ daily.
