OVERCOME
John 16:33
Jesus overcame the world and calls us to do the same. We can all overcome. That is God's plan for each of us.
Revelation 17:14
Not only will Jesus (the Lamb) overcome his enemies, but so will, beside him, his called, chosen and faithful followers. We can all overcome as long as we maintain a radical, wholehearted loyalty to Jesus.
Jeremiah 17:9,10
Because our hearts are deceitful, God examines them. Sometimes we feel that some situations and challenges in our lives are beyond us and cannot change. But we can change.
1. START ON YOUR KNEES
Psalm 88:1,2
When you take issues to God, he answers.
Q. Are you praying? Is it a faithful prayer?
If in prayer you lack faith then you have not understood where the power comes from.
God wants to know if we are committed to him and if we trust him. How we pray reflects this - either out of familiarity or out of faith.
1 Chronicles 5:18-20
God responded to the faith with which his people prayed. We must trsut God at all times and in all circumstances.
If you do not see change, growth and progress occurring in your life, then you must ask yourself if you are trusting in God.
When you trust God, you overcome. The key in prayer is not the length of time but the depth of trust.
2. KNOW THE TRUTH
Psalm 23:1-3
The truth is that God is our shepherd. This we must understand with deep conviction. It is up to us to let God be our shepherd and let him lead us.
Verse 1: Given that we will not be in want when God leads us, there is never reason to be anxious.
Verse 2: Let God lead you beside quiet waters, i.e. lead you to times of peace and tranquility.
Verse 3: God restores our souls. This means that we won't always be at our best and will from time to time require restoration.
Once you are restored, you will have great confidence and expectations. So, when your expectations and standards suffer, it shows that your soul is in need of restoration.
1 John 1:8-10
When we resist openness, the truth is not in us. If you are not open, then as you get older, you will get progressively more bitter. If you do not deal with things that have discouraged you, it will pull and keep you down.
Don't bottle in your emotions. Deal with your feelings. Be open and get help. If not, then a part of you dies a bit at a time.
In Revelation Jesus gives many inspiring promises to those who overcome. You can do it. "To him who overcomes," he says in chapter 3:21, "I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne."
