ASLEEP IN THE STORM
Consider the following verses:
Psalm 29:11
The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.
Psalm 119:165
Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.
Isaiah 26:3
You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.
Q. Is this the kind of peace that you have? Is this the kind of peace that you will have?
1. PEACE THROUGH PRAYER
Romans 8:6
Q. Has your prayer life brought you peace? Pray in the Spirit.
Q. In your life, are you at peace or are you screaming? Despite having been with Jesus and hearing all his preaching that day, the disciples were not at peace.
Hearing sermons and attending church activities does not mean that you are at peace. Q. Is there a storm raging inside?
Marrieds, in several cases we allow setbacks in the relationship to get us to turn on each other, accuse each other, argue, etc. There is no peace. You need to pray.
John 14:27, 16:33 Jesus gives us the great peace that he had in Mark 4.
2. FAITH THROUGH PRAYER
We need peace, but we also need faith as well. Faith moves mountains.
Mark 4:39,40 God can do whatever he wants. Maybe God allowed this for the purpose of building the disciples’ faith.
One way that faith is built is through answered prayer, e.g.
-Hannah’s prayer for a son. She not only got a son, but what a son! Two books in the Bible are named after him.
-Elijah’s prayer on Mount Carmel. Imagine how it built the Israelites’ faith as God answered by fire.
-The disciples’ prayer in Acts 4:24-31. They asked for boldness. God not only gave them boldness, but he shook the place too.
When we don’t pray, we give God nothing to answer.
Revelation 5:8, 8:3-5 Our prayers are a fragrance that perfume heaven.
The apostles experienced peace, faith, and boldness that made them unstoppable. Through our prayers, let us experience peace, faith and boldness that make us unstoppable to the glory of God!
