THE NATURE OF GOD'S PROMISES

2 Corinthians 1:20

All of God's promises are sure, every single one of them. None are more certain than others. We tend to treat some promises with doubt, but God's promises are ALL "YES' in Christ. God's promises are:

1. SAFE AND SECURE

Matthew 28:19-20
God promises to be with us till the end of the age. We must be conscious of his presence at all times and throughout our days as disciples.
Psalm 127:1b Watchmen cannot provide security. God does.
Hebrews 13:5b,6 God promises never to leave or forsake us.
Luke 21:18 Not the smallest part of our body will perish.

2. UNDESERVED AND UNDOUBTED

We tend to trust more when we feel we deserve the promise people make to us. Unfortunately, certain promises made by God cannot be merited by our works. They are gifts.

Ephesians 2:8,9 Salvation is a gift from God.
Psalm 127:3 Children are a gift from God.
Hebrews 6:13-20 God even confirmed his promises with an oath.

3. RICH AND REMARKABLE

Mark 10:29 Rich promises are interesting and full of variety. They are expensive and come in large amounts. Here God promises us 100 times as much of all things we give up for him, be they material, spiritual or concerning our emotional well-being.

Deuteronomy 28:1-14 An incredible variety of blessings and God's promises to those who obey him.

4. EXCELLENT AND ETERNAL

God's promises continue forever. They are without end. We cannot say that this onlt applies to people of long ago. Some promises specifically say that they are for all people everywhere, e.g. Acts 2:38,39.

The first letters of each of the above points are S-UR-E.

Numbers 23:19 God does not lie. All of his promises are SURE.
