FEAR OF GOD
Colossians 2:6-8
Jesus is lord, continue in him: When Jesus is Lord of our lives and we live in the fear of him, we will be active and self-motivated. Those who have the fear of God are self-motivated because they listen to the voice of God and respond to the love of God.
Rooted in God: we should have minds guided by the bible.
A well-rooted tree is strong, green and its branches spread wide.
Built up: Once rooted, we must be built up, i.e. we must grow. If we do not grow individually in our spiritual walk, then the church will not grow. The key to growth is the following:
Strengthened in the faith: We must grow and be strengthened in our faith. Study God's promises, understand God's purpose, trust in God's plan, and tap into God' power. Study your bible daily, pray about your various situations and get input from people of solid faith.
Q. Do you actively aim to grow in your faith?
Q. Do you fear God or do you rely on being given orders in order to move and act?
Ephesians 4:26,27
In order to consolidate our unity, we need to resolve issues and differences that we are experiencing with others.
Q. With whom do you need to sit down and resolve issues? Don't overlook this or take it lightly. Handle his issue as the bible directs.
1 Corinthians 15:3-5
Pass on what you receive. All that you learn and God shows you, use it to help non-disciples and bring them to the faith.
Q. What are you doing with your faith and bible knowledge - passing it on or sitting on it?
Matthew 19:19
We must do our best to help our parents and not overlook them. Church commitments should never be an excuse for neglecting our parents.
Our neighbours are those who are around us. We are called to love them, and there is no greater love than to share with them and show them the light.
Q. Are you active in sharing your faith or have you been making excuses - "I don't know the studies," "it has been raining," "I get home late from work," "I'm too busy," "the church is big, someone else will do it," "people around me are not open," etc.?
Those who fear God make disciples and they make a difference. Those who lack the fear of God make excuses.
Let us all fear God and serve him with great faithfulness.
