INTENSE INTENT INTERNS Albert Simiyu and Alice Gitonga Join Ministry Staff
Last year, in the East ministries of the Nairobi church, Albert Simiyu and Alice Gitonga entered the full-time ministry, joining the ranks of those spearheading the shepherding and stewardship of the church in Kenya’s capital.
Baptized on 20 June 1995, Albert Simiyu Wanjala (left) currently leads the teens ministry of Nairobi’s East ministries. Reflecting back on the road of his spiritual growth, Albert shares that as a young Christian, “the challenge to put God’s word ahead of my personal ambitions was overwhelming. I professed love for God and the church but read more secular literature. This state of uncertainty lingered for some time but I thank God for the bible and the consistent discipling sessions that did so much to form the mature person of Christ in me.”
About his present goals Albert, who is a powerful and dynamic songleader in the church, says, I aspire to rise up and see a teens ministry that is spiritual and vibrant enough to give promise for the future of God’s kingdom especially on African soil.” Albert’s dream? “I pray that within the next ten years every district in Kenya will have a church of Christ.” Alice (right) joined the full-time ministry less than two years after being baptized. This is testimony that you don’t have to have been around for a long time to do great things.
“I was persecuted by my religious friends when I decided to become a disciple and I also had to overcome some issues within my family,” Alice shares. But she faced her challenges with faith and overcame. Now she is heel-bent—or rather, heaven-bent in this case, of course—on the work of leading the women in the teens ministry. “I want to serve as long as God will need me to, without giving up,” Alice shares. She seeks to help the teens to grow spiritually and desires to bear as much fruit as possible. Additionally, Alice dreams, “I pray to become a women’s ministry leader.” Both Albert’s and Alice’s names begin with “A,” and we wish them A-grade success in serving God’s flock and in living out their spiritual dreams. |
