6 July 2004 HIDDEN TREASURE 2004 Nairobi Christian Church Teen Camp
This year, from August 16th to 21st, the Nairobi Christian Church will be hosting a camp for teens in the Kenyan city of Mombasa on the edge of the Indian Ocean. The theme is "Hidden Treasure." Registration and participation fee is Kshs. 4, 000. The teens will reside at the ACK Guest House on the South Coast of the city.
While Mombasa is famous for stunning sunrises and the spectacular horizon of the ocean that seems to stretch endlessly before caressing the clouds in the distance, a new dawn is set to break in the teens ministry as the young disciples get the chance to stretch their vision and herald new heights in their faith as it grabs hold of the future that stretches seemingly endlessly before them. Teen camps have become an annual highlight not only for the youth in the church but many of their friends and the parents as well. Mombasa is a precious treasure to the country of Kenya as a popular international tourist destination, but also economically the port serves many countries in East and Central Africa. Historically, Mombasa was a base for the early Portuguese explorers, who risked their lives and sailed to its shores in search of treasure. They later built Fort Jesus, that still stands to this day. Arab traders came to Mombasa in large numbers and many of the towns inhabitants are descendants of intermarriage between the Arabs and the indigenous population. Mombasa was also the starting point for the railway that was built all the way to Uganda, known then as the pearl of Africa, the laying down of which introduced the Indian community to this part of the African continent. Mombasa has been and has held great treasure for the country of Kenya. More recently, a bible talk of disciples originally from the Nairobi and Eldoret congregations, has been meeting in Mombasa and has established an evangelistic presence in the city. With its mixture of history and current day popularity, Mombasa city is an ideal setting for the teens to get away from the hustle and bustle - and cold - of Nairobi and spend time drawing closer to God and to each other. the participants are destined to discover true treasure in God, his word and the gathering of the young saints.
