KAMPALA COMES TO TOWN
Nairobi Mini Teen Camp 2004 - "A Fresh Start"

Matthias and Lilliane
The annual year-opening mini-camp for the Nairobi church's teens was special this year because the teens and campus ministry of the Kampala church came into town to join them. It was two days of great fun, sporting competitions, making friends and hearing lessons from the word of God. The theme was "A Fresh Start" and was an excellent way to begin the year 2004.

Classes were taught about walking with God, relationship with parents, purity and academic excellence. Both sets of teens, from Nairobi and Kampala, were emphatic about what the camp meant to them. Matthias Lukwago (above left), who leads the Teens and Campus Ministry in Kampala says, "The messages at this camp have been challenging. We need to go back and build our relationships with God to be great." Lillian Nakanyike (above right), who leads with Matthias shares enthusiastically, "Most of teens from Kampala had never associated with teens from another country. Their being out here with other teen disciples has raised their faith."

Kampala Teens Edna shared that, "The conviction and the hospitality of the Nairobi teens has been encouraging." "Nairobi teens are friendly. When we first met it was like we'd known each other for a whole month," Irene adds. Team times presented the opportunity to confess sin and get help about different personal issues. Raymond says, "I have learned through the team time to be open about my sins and to be together with others." Gerald, a teen worker, speaking of the key lessons that he learned, said, "From now on we'll handle issues differently. We've heard a message about being selective about the music we listen to." Arthur shares excitedly that he "learned how to deal with fears, for example speaking in public."

Volleyball The Nairobi teens were equally inspired by the camp, which was, for them, both a cultural exchange and a spiritual renewal. An exciting pool competition saw the Nairobi teens run out winners, but the Ugandans were to have their "revenge" as they prevailed in a pulsating volleyball match (left).

This truly was a fresh start, and we look forward to great things and much progress in the teen ministries of Nairobi and Kampala.
